Most dishwasher faults come down to water
A dishwasher only does three things: it fills, heats and circulates water, then pumps it out. Almost every fault we see on a Siemens dishwasher is a problem with one of those steps. That makes them very repairable, and it is rarely the case that a dishwasher needs replacing.
On Siemens models the heater is built into the circulation pump, a part usually called the heat pump. When it fails the dishwasher still runs, but dishes come out cold and greasy and the cycle may take far longer than normal. It's one of the most common Siemens dishwasher repairs we do.
The other big one is drainage. Food bits, labels from jars and broken glass collect at the drain pump. A shard of glass stuck in the impeller will give you a drain error every time until it's removed.
Siemens dishwasher error codes
Codes can vary slightly between older and newer models. These are the ones customers call us about most often.
| Code | What it means | What to try first |
|---|---|---|
| E15 | Water in the base tray (AquaStop) | Turn off the water. Something is leaking inside. Too much washing-up liquid can cause it too. |
| E22 | Filters blocked | Remove and clean the filters in the base of the tub. |
| E24 | Water not draining | Clean the filters. Check the drain hose under the sink isn't kinked and the sink isn't blocked. |
| E25 | Drain pump blocked | Often glass or a bottle cap in the pump. Needs the pump cover opened, which is best left to us. |
| E09 | Heating fault | Usually the heat pump. The dishwasher may still run but won't wash properly. |
If a code clears and keeps coming back, there is a real fault. Repeated resets can make a leak worse.
What happens on a dishwasher visit
We check the fault, show you what's causing it, and give you the price. The repair only goes ahead once you're happy with the quote. For built-in dishwashers we bring the unit out carefully and refit it level, so the door panel lines up with your kitchen.
Afterwards we run a cycle to check it fills, heats and drains properly. Repairs come with a [[WARRANTY PERIOD]] warranty.

Keeping a dishwasher healthy
- Scrape plates into the bin. You don't need to rinse them, but bones and labels damage the pump.
- Set the water hardness in the menu to match your water. The manual explains how.
- Keep salt and rinse aid topped up. Both have warning lights.
- Run an empty hot cycle with a dishwasher cleaner once a month.
- Never use washing-up liquid inside the machine. The foam can leak into the base and trigger E15.
Dishwasher repair questions
My Siemens dishwasher shows E24. What does that mean?
E24 means the dishwasher can't pump the water out. Usually the filters at the bottom are blocked, or the drain hose is kinked behind the unit. If the sink drain is also slow, that can cause it too, because most dishwashers drain through the sink trap. If clearing the filters doesn't help, the drain pump is the next suspect, which is E25 on many models.
Why are my glasses coming out cloudy?
There are two different kinds of cloudiness. If it wipes off with vinegar, it's limescale, and the fix is salt, rinse aid and the right water hardness setting. If it won't wipe off at all, the glass itself has been etched, often from too much detergent with soft water, and that damage is permanent. We can check which it is and set the machine up correctly.
Can I just reset an E15 code?
You can, but it will come back. E15 means water has collected in the base tray and the AquaStop float has triggered. Something is leaking inside: a hose, a seal, or the pump housing. Too much washing-up liquid in the machine can also cause foam to spill into the base. Turn off the water and call us.
My dishwasher won't dry the dishes. Is that a fault?
Not always. Many Siemens models dry by condensation rather than with a hot fan, so plastic items stay wet. Check the rinse aid is topped up first. On models with Zeolith drying, poor drying can point to a fault, so it's worth a check if it used to dry well and suddenly doesn't.
Do you repair integrated (built-in) dishwashers?
Yes. Fully integrated models need to come out of the cabinet for most repairs, and we take care with the kitchen door panel and the plinth when we remove and refit them.
Dishwasher not draining or not cleaning?
Call or send a WhatsApp message with the model number and the problem, and we will arrange a visit.
